LIBYAN BOOTS
Leggings - the name came from the name of the ancient Libyan city of Gamadashi, where they made skin for the first samples - they wore warriors to protect their legs from wounds, insects and dirt. Such overhead shafts were worn over shoes and secured with special hairpins. Gaiters came to Europe very soon - in the 16th century, they were worn by the Lombards and Franks. True, these were no longer leather, but thick woolen or from a rough canvas and fastened with buttons. After some time, they again entered the uniform of the military of Europe and the United States, and in addition, successfully fit into the wardrobe of Anglican priests.
CHANGE TITLE
Gaiters-pipes - without fasteners - have become shorter and are called leggings. They gained popularity in the era of King George V. They were sewn from leather (including patent leather) and worn with shoes and boots. Then the gaiters went out of fashion, but on the threshold of the third millennium they became relevant again. True, they have changed somewhat and become a female accessory.
EVERYONE DANCES
In total, the leggings were more useful for dancing and, of course, aerobics (leg muscles were warmed up more easily). And they looked so cute that fashionistas began to wear them just like that. Today they wear plain and color, nylon and cotton, winter - "Scandinavian" and summer - silk, with a pattern, embroidery and even applications. By the way, a combination of leggings with socks is also popular.
