Types of female figures: we select clothes

Each woman is unique and inimitable. But female figures are still usually divided into certain types.

We asked the stylist, the head of the Wardrobe Rehab image studio, Oksana Bolbot, to tell us about the types of female figures and advise which clothes are best to choose depending on the characteristics of your physique.

What types of shapes are there?


In general, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of typologies of figures in the world. But the meaning does not change from this - in ancient times there was a standard of beauty of the female and male body. For women, this is an hourglass figure, and for men, it is a figure with broad shoulders and narrow hips. All other types of figures simply fix where there is a so-called deviation from the norm.

We know 5 main types of female figures:

  • Rectangle
  • Inverted triangle
  • Hourglass
  • An Apple
  • Pear

If we are talking about an apple-like figure, we mean the full central part of the body.
The pear-shaped figure has an emphasis on the hips, but a very slender top.
The inverted triangle with the base up has broad shoulders, but at the same time slender legs and hips.
The rectangular type of figure can be different - a slender rectangle has the right to visually have the shape of an hourglass, while a full rectangle will never become one.

Does the type of body shape change with age or weight?


In fact, the stylist does not look at the type of figure, but precisely at the distribution of body volumes. By the way, a good clue about what type of figure you have is in which part of the body you are recovering first. Everything is very harmonious in the body - it doesn’t matter how many kilograms you lose or gain, the distribution of body mass will correspond to your body type, so the body type itself can vary in volume, but never in lines.

How to determine your type of figure?


You can take a full-length photo and analyze your type of figure. See which external lines of the body are sharp, linear, or rounded and soft? Pay attention to the waist - is it clearly visible?
Further, it makes sense to measure the width of the thigh, waist and shoulder - if the shoulder volume is equal to the width of the hip - your figure is most likely balanced, if the shoulders are wider than the hips - there is probably an emphasis on the upper body, if the hip is wider - on the lower.

How to choose clothes depending on the type of figure?

We always strive to make our figure visually look like an hourglass. Therefore, when choosing clothes, you need to choose models so that the figure looks as close as possible precisely to this harmonious type.

Hourglass

If you are lucky and the figure is perfect - the volume of the hips is equal to the width of the shoulders, and the waist is less than the volume of the hips by 30 cm, choose fitted silhouettes, and be sure to ensure that the clothes balance the volume of the top and bottom. This is very important, because if you wear a voluminous top, your figure will distort and look fuller, but if you move the volume down, your hips will look fuller.


Rectangle and apple

If your figure resembles a full rectangle or an apple, wear half-straight clothing made of thick fabrics, avoid knitwear. Focus on the neckline and slender legs.


Inverted triangle

If you are the owner of a figure with a dominant of shoulders - focus on bright trousers and skirts, avoid details in the upper body, prefer V-shaped cuts and sleeves ¾.

Pear

But pear girls, on the contrary, should choose bright and interesting tops, wear wraps and scarves to visually make the hips more slender.
